Lots of major news making their way on the feeds this week, like Meta considering a project to join the fediverse. In the tech world, the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank was the major news. Personally I have found more coverage and comments on this event on my Mastodon feed than expected, indicating that the fediverse is rapidly getting better for following along with major news event.

But everyone talking about the major news runs the risk of missing all the other relevant things that have happened. So here is this weeks roundup of all the other things that happened, starting with WordPress:

WordPress

  • The ActivityPub plugin for WordPress is now officially developed by Automattic as well, listed as an author for the plugin. This is a pretty big deal, as it signals the support of Automattic. Considering that the majority of websites on the internet run WordPress, being able to integrate all these websites into the fediverse with ease is a major development.
  • The WordPress community held a survey to help to improve the WordPress-related Mastodon instances. The results are available here. The very short summary is that the WordPress community thinks that Mastodon and the fediverse is highly important in the future.
  • Jetpack, a popular plugin for WordPress, now allows easy sharing to Mastodon.
